Allergy to Iodine

Who Is At Risk for Allergy to Radiocontrast Media(RCM)?
People who appear to be at higher risk for reactions to RCM include the following groups:
•Those with past reactions to RCM
•People with asthma
•History of allergies
•History of heart disease
•History of kidney disease
•Those taking beta-blockers
•Females
•Elderly (appear to be at higher risk for severe reactions)

Before the Test/Procedure At least 24 hours before your test:

■ Obtain prescriptions from your doctor

■ Fill prescriptions

13 hours before your test:

■ Take prednisone, 50 mg by mouth

7 hours before your test:

■ Take prednisone, 50 mg by mouth

1 hour before your test:

■ Take prednisone, 50 mg by mouth

■ Take Benadryl,® 50 mg tablets

Take these medications with water. Based on your test, if food and liquid intake is not allowed, take medications with small sips of water. If these medications are not taken as directed, your test may not be done.
